Urban Impact Kenya is a Christian community development charity that is rooted in the aspirations of the Urban Poor communities in Kenya’s capital city, Nairobi. We are dedicated to working with the urban poor families and communities to overcome poverty and injustice.
We work in the slums (Informal settlements) of Nairobi by equipping the local Church to walk alongside people who are poor, breaking the spiritual, social, and material bonds of poverty. As a result, churches model Jesus’ heart for the poor in practical ways, showing His care and power over every part of life and bringing lasting transformation
Urban Impact Kenya is different in many ways by which we operates to alleviate poverty among the poor in the slums, here below we he we feature some of the key highlights that define why we are different
We work with vulnerable households in urban slums areas. Our staff live with communities at grassroots level, learning from them and working alongside them while pursuing the goal of promoting their wellbeing.
We work with and through the local Church to provide local presence, accountability, credibility and infrastructure. Urban Impact partners with local Churches to be agents of transformation in their communities.
To break the cycle of poverty and dependency, urban impact operates on the principle of helping communities to help themselves. We believe everyone has a potential to lift themselves out of poverty
By providing use of locally available resources which leads to mind-set transformation, we promote self-reliance and reduce dependency in handouts
We focus on a community’s strengths rather than its problems, and mobilize their talents, skills and assets to create sustainable solutions.
We build on existing structures and engage with the local communities and stakeholders to reduce duplication, allows for cost savings
