Our Model

Urban Impact Kenya
Our Model

The Urban Impact Kenya model is a strategic and integrated process that unfolds across seven pivotal phases, each contributing to a comprehensive approach to community development. Beginning with Identification, the model meticulously identifies specific needs within the community, laying the groundwork for targeted interventions. The subsequent phase, Connection, emphasizes the establishment of meaningful relationships with the community, fostering trust and collaboration.

Inspiration follows, where a shared sense of purpose and motivation is cultivated, creating a foundation for collective action. As the model progresses to Engagement, active and inclusive participation becomes a central focus, ensuring that community members are key stakeholders in the transformative process. The Equipping phase is characterized by the provision of essential tools and knowledge, empowering individuals and communities to drive their own progress.

The Impact phase represents the tangible realization of positive change in livelihoods and living conditions. Ultimately, the model culminates in Transformation, signifying the evolution of the community into a resilient, self-sustaining entity. This holistic and structured approach reflects Urban Impact Kenya’s commitment to fostering enduring positive outcomes and sustainable transformations within the communities it serves

Our Approach

Identify

We settle on a target area and identify a pool of local churches for consideration. This is done by the locational project committee comprised of volunteers, UIK project officer, project coordinator and representatives of the local pastor’s network. A partner is identified.

Connect

We meet the part partner, share our vision and mission and establish a working relationship. These connect meetings happen in one of the local churches as host in a central location with a specific slum.

Inspire

We motivate the local church to reach out to her community, to be the heart, the hands and the feet of Jesus in their community thus fulfilling her mandate of being salt of the earth and the light of the world according to Mathew 5:13-16.

At this point, we talk about the integral mission and the mandate of the Church in promoting lasting transformation. We invite the church to a new conversation – How they can practically demonstrate the love of Christ. We Re-Imagine and Rethink together ongoing perceptions and narratives about poverty and how together, we can bring Gods kingdom on earth in these areas, to these people.

Engage

Once we feel convinced that we have generated enough interest to the potential partners, we encourage them to commit to our process. We explore their Hopes, Fears and Expectations. Our focus in the conversation is more on the process than the product. We then invite them to commit to the process (Usually through a commitment form ) which later is reinforced by an MoU between the Church and UIK. This allows us to journey together through a process of skills and knowledge transfer.

Equip

We equip the partner (Local Church) with simple tools that enable them to apply what they have learned immediately, thus beginning the first steps in the transformation of their own lives/communities with what they have (Existing local resources – Individual or communal. We equip them with skills (HAND UP and NOT HAND OUTS) so that dignity and sustainability can be passed on to others! Our trainings place special emphasis on the importance of mindset transformation.

Impact

From the onset, we enable individuals and communities to discover what the Bible says they can become and what they can do in God’s power. People overcoming fear and other barriers, action to transform their situation in faith. Together, we see communities being restored, hope renewed and lives are transformed. At this point we exit the Churches, recruit new ones and the process is recycled of course, taking into consideration the lessons learned in each step of interaction.
